DACHSER takes on 613 junior staff
Logistics is growing and so, too, are the demands on employees in the industry. Consequently, DACHSER continues to invest in the training of future logistics professionals and managers.
When a fresh cycle of training started this year in Germany, the logistics provider welcomed 583 new trainees and 30 new students to the DACHSER fold.
Whether providing the population with food, the economy with goods, or hospitals and doctor’s offices with medical supplies, logistics has been on everyone’s lips since the start of the pandemic and is classed as an essential service. DACHSER employees have demonstrated that they have the know-how and dedication to keep the economy’s supply chains working—thereby making an important contribution to society.
The logistics sector was able to improve its image during the crisis and has become more attractive on the jobs market with its stable, promising careers. “Because a lot of careers fairs were canceled, and there were few info events and internship opportunities, the recruiting phase was quite challenging this year,” says Vera Weidemann, Head of Corporate Human Resources at logistics provider DACHSER. And so she is all the happier that 600 talented young people were inspired to launch their careers at DACHSER in Germany. Among the new beginners are 90 trainee truck drivers, an occupation that caught the attention of the public in a very positive light during the coronavirus pandemic.

DACHSER is satisfied with its trainee situation this year, despite reports from the German Federal Employment Agency that 32,000 fewer young people applied for a trainee position in the country, leaving many vacancies unfilled. “Despite all the challenges, we are holding true to our responsibility to develop young talent, since well-trained employees are the foundation of our business,” says Burkhard Eling, CEO of DACHSER. “Over the past year and a half, our trainees and students have performed marvels, working in a highly motivated manner and contributing to the success of the company,” Eling continues. “We managed at all times to uphold our commitment to performance and quality for our customers and partners. This was first and foremost thanks to the dedication and commitment of our employees.”
Great value on high-quality training
As a family-owned company, DACHSER has traditionally placed great value on high-quality training allied with knowledge sharing and support. Trainees make up about 10 percent of the workforce. Across all training years, there are currently a total of 1,699 trainees and students at DACHSER. Freight forwarding and logistics agents make up the largest grouping among this year’s crop of trainees with 283 new recruits, while trainee warehouse clerks make up the second largest grouping with 121 new recruits.
